Self-Employment for you?

Self employment is something you can learn, so whatever you do, don’t beat yourself up with any negative criticism’s before you even start. There are a few questions you need to ask yourself, here are a few to get you thinking:

• What skills do you have now, go on, pat yourself on the back and write a list now!
• What do you love, helping others, sales, fixing things, making things or are you a great communicator, do you prefer working alone, are you good with technology?
• Do you have any money to invest into the business or Partners?
• How much do you expect to make in the first 1, 2 or 3 years?

Your answers to these questions and many more, are also dependent on if you already have your business idea, and/or the necessary skills it takes to sell your products or services. You may not need to go ‘back to school’ – dare I say or learn a new trade; it might be possible to get started with some online training.

One thing to remember is, anything is possible with the passion to succeed. There isn’t an area of your business that you cannot employ or buy-in someone to work, there is of course a price but if it means things will get done properly and will help the business run smoothly, then it will be worth it in the long run.

Either through desperation or waiting too long to pluck up the courage, many business owners get a buzz to start immediately so they can get it off the ground without delay, this can cause problems in the future or it can also be what a person needs to get it started. There are more people that never start their business, due to a variety of fears they’ve created in their minds.

The decision is yours, if you’re a procrastinator or talk without the walk, then get yourself some basic startup advice, a draft business plan and get going!!! It is possible to ride the waves without a plan and get to a destination – if you have one?!

Please note, rushing to start a business without a plan can easily put you into a position of constantly working to make ends meet, with very little progress over a long period. You can, work smart and achieve goals which can empower you, and progress your business in a short period of time; and with the right checks in place to assess where you are over a given period you can foresee dangers ahead and plan accordingly.
